Sport
Games, athletics and inter-house competition, from the early years through to the secondary classes. Physical play is part of how young children develop, so it has a proper place in the week.
Beyond the classroom
What children here do when they are not in a lesson.
Lessons are not the whole of a school day, and they are not the whole of an education. Alongside the timetable, children here play sport, compete, perform, travel and take charge of things.
The school puts it plainly: these activities are geared towards the all-round development of the child. The total child cannot be effectively moulded without programmes that sensitise and stimulate learning.
What is on offer
Games, athletics and inter-house competition, from the early years through to the secondary classes. Physical play is part of how young children develop, so it has a proper place in the week.
Cultural Day and the work around it: traditional dress, language, food, music and the customs of Nigeria’s peoples. Children learn where they come from, and meet where their classmates come from.
Children are entered for competition inside the school and beyond it. Competing teaches preparation, nerve, and how to lose well.
Trips out of school that put a subject in front of a child in the real world, rather than in a textbook.
Children are given charge of a group, a task or an event early, and they carry the consequences of how they handle it.
Children come dressed for the work they want to do, and spend the day finding out what that work involves.
Theme weeks
A few times a year the school takes a single idea and builds the week around it, across every class at once.
Children come to school with food and water only — no fizzy drinks all week — and lessons run on the importance of water to health and wellbeing.
Children bring food, fruit and water, again with no fizzy drinks, and spend the week learning what fruit does for a growing body.
A week given to reading aloud, storytelling, spelling and writing, so that every child in the school is seen reading and heard reading.
Number work taken out of the exercise book and into games, measuring, money and problem-solving across every class in the school.
Activities vary by age group and by term. Call the school and we will tell you what is running.
