About the school

Who we are.

A Christian Montessori school, teaching children from three months old to the end of secondary school.

Our story

How the school began.

Sure Edge Montessori began as an early-years school and has grown, class by class. Today the Early Years & Primary School takes children from three months old through Basic 5, and the Secondary School runs the full course from JSS 1 to SS 3.

Growth of that kind is slow on purpose. A class is added when there are teachers ready to teach it and a room fit to teach it in — not before. It is the same instinct the school crest describes: faithfulness in little things. Get the small decisions right, repeatedly, and the large ones take care of themselves.

What has not changed is the kind of attention a child gets here. A teacher here works with each child at their own pace, and it is why parents bring us children who have found learning hard elsewhere. We have a good record with those children, and we are quietly proud of it.

Our mission

To nurture every child entrusted to us into a confident reader, a careful thinker and a person of sound character — through Montessori practice, the Nigerian curriculum, and the daily discipline of faithfulness in little things.

Our vision

To be the school parents name first: a place where every child, from three months old to the final year of secondary school, is known personally, taught excellently, and raised to stand, build and lead.

Our values

Our values.

Faithfulness in Little Things

Character is built in small, repeated acts: tidying the mat, finishing the work, telling the truth when it costs something. That is what the motto on our crest means.

Every Child Known

A teacher here works with each child at their own pace. We have a good record with children who find learning hard, and it is one of the main reasons parents come to us.

Character Before Cleverness

We are a Christian school. We set out to raise good citizens — children who are honest, courteous and useful to the people around them.

Learning by Doing

Practical life sits at the centre of the day. Children pour, sort, build, measure and tidy, because the hand teaches the mind.

A Safe, Watched Place

Trained caregivers, assigned health personnel and security staff, and a lesson on the rights of the child taught every single day.

Ready for the Wider World

We prepare children to hold their own against their peers anywhere in the country.

Educational philosophy

A hybrid curriculum: Montessori method, Nigerian content.

The school runs a broad-based hybrid curriculum that combines the Montessori approach with the Nigerian national curriculum. The method is Montessori — children work with materials, at their own pace, guided rather than drilled. The content is Nigerian, so that nothing a child needs for the next stage of their education is left out.

The practical consequence is that our children begin to read early. Most are reading by the age of four. By the time a child reaches Basic 1, reading and writing are secure enough that the work changes character entirely — the child is no longer being carried. We call them high flyers, and we let them fly.

Alongside the academic work sits practical life: pouring, sorting, buttoning, sweeping, caring for a shared space. This is how a small child learns concentration, order, independence, and respect for other people's work.

Why choose Sure Edge

Why parents choose us.

Six things parents tell us made the difference.

Children reading by four

Our Montessori literacy sequence starts with sounds and pencil control in the nursery. Most of our children are reading by age four, and writing simple composition about their own environment by Kindergarten 3.

A proven record with strugglers

Where a child is struggling, we adjust the work to the child instead of pushing the child through the work. Parents come to us for this.

Qualified, interviewed, trained teachers

Only candidates holding an education certificate are interviewed. Every teacher completes teaching practice with us before employment, and training continues after.

Character and Christian values

Good values and good manners are taught here, deliberately and every day. We are raising children to be good citizens and credible ambassadors of their country.

A safe and conducive environment

Trained caregivers watch the children through the day. A nurse and Red Cross personnel are assigned to the school, and security staff are on the premises.

Children who compete anywhere

We are not trying to be the best school on our road. We are raising children who can compete with their peers from anywhere.

“Good values and morals are inculcated. The child is moulded to be a good citizen and ambassador of his or her country.”
Dr. Arby Ifeanyieke · Director of Academics
